2011 MICCS Award Winners Announced

4/22/2011

From miccs.org

Indianapolis, April 20, 2011 -- Meyer Najem was the night’s big winner at the 18th annual MICCS Awards Celebration as they were awarded the Excellence in Safety Crystal Eagle. The company was named the top safety leader among the nine Excellence in Safety category winners during the event held Tuesday night at the JW Marriott.

The judges were impressed with the maturation of Meyer Najem’s safety program. They noted that it was evident that they have worked hard over the past few years to considerably develop their program. The results confirm it as they had zero recordable injuries for the past three years.

To be considered for an Excellence in Safety Leader Award, companies must submit an application to MICCS in their category of work. A panel of three judges verify that a company’s submission is worthy of a safety achievement award meaning that they have met the submission criteria requirements. The judges then unanimously determine one safety leader from each category. This year’s Excellence in Safety Leader Award winners are:

Mechanical Contractor – BMW Constructors
GC above 300,000 man hours – Shiel Sexton
Owners & Facilities Maintenance – Central Indiana Alliance
GC below 300,000 man hours – Meyer Najem
Electrical – Industrial Electric
Residential Builder – Ryland Homes
Specialty Contractors – Solid Platforms
Construction Manager – Turner Construction Co. of Indiana
Residential Trade Partner - Airtron
From these companies, the judges’ panel chose Meyer Najem as best of the best - naming them the 2011 Excellence in Safety Crystal Eagle Award winner.

Special awards were presented during the celebration including the Burnie McGinnis Award, which is presented to a person who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to worker safety. While some years this award is not given; this year, the judges determined that both Gary Price, past President of MICCS, and Bill Mott of Hunt Construction were deserving of this prestigious award. Phil Kenney, President of F.A. Wilhelm Construction, received the MICCS Board of Directors Award, which is presented annually to a volunteer that has dedicated countless hours and resources towards advancing the mission of MICCS.

The judges recognized two projects for their safety efforts and accomplishments. Outstanding Project Awards were presented to the Eastern Star Church - Northwest Campus which is owned by the Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church and nominated by Powers and Sons Construction and Wishard Dunlap 3 Interventional & Diagnostic Suite project which is owned by Wishard Health Services and nominated by Summit Construction.
