ASSE/ANSI Release Revised Fall Protection Standard
8/18/2004
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has announced the release of its much-anticipated revision of its Fall Protection Standard developed with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
ANSI/ASSE A10.32- 2004, "Fall Protection Systems for Construction and Demolition Operations" has been published and is now available.
This standard is significant to SH&E professionals due to the fact that the ANSI A10.14-1991 standard, "Requirements for Safety Belts, Harnesses, Lanyards and Lifelines for Construction and Demolition Use" was administratively withdrawn by ANSI on June 21, 2002 and is no longer in effect.
Previous announcements about this issue generated a significant number of responses due to the fact that many industry suppliers did not appear to be aware that there was no longer a fall protection/arrest standard providing guidance for the construction and demolition industry outside of OSHA. Cited in OSHA standards, regulations, and interpretations, the A10.14 was a significant standard used by many, if not most, Safety professionals.
The A10.32 is a stronger standard and is designed to move fall arrest/protection forward on construction and demolition sites.
