Clarian Arnett Project Is Developing a Strong Safety Culture
7/17/2007
Lafayette, Indiana -- 'A successful safety program is truly a team effort,' writes Jason Willis in the June issue of the Clarian Arnett Hospital Monthly Construction Progress Report (click here for a pdf). Jason is the site safety manager representing Clarian Health Partners on the Arnett Hospital Project.

Scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2008, the hospital will provide residents of the Lafayette, Indiana area a full complement of services in the expansive 425,000 square foot facility. Currently, there are nearly 300 craft personnel on the project.
'The biggest challenge has been to get the guys to 'buy-in' to the safety,' says Jason. 'A lot of the guys around here have never been on a job like this and they're not used to the requirements that we consider 'standard' at other locations.'
Jason has served the role of 'safety coach' along with the general contractor and all the superintendents at the site to instill the type of safety culture desired by Clarian on this project. The successes make all the effort worthwhile.
'The ironworker superintendent was buying into it 'big time' by the time he was finished with the project. He was always accepting, listened to us, and did the best he could with what he had.'
Together, the contractors on this site have maintained injury rates below the national and state average, with no injuries requiring time away from work.
