Hoosier Safety Council Conference

3/27/2003
The Hoosier Safety Council (HSC) will host their 17th Annual Safety & Health Conference April 29-May 1, 2003, at the Cumberland Place Exhibition Center in West Lafayette, IN.

The first day of the Conference - April 29th ' will provide Professional Development Seminars (PDSs) of either 4 or 8 hours in length. These seminars will give safety and health professionals the opportunity to attend a more in-depth session than the general sessions on the other days of the conference. The PDS sessions include Traffic Safety, Ergonomics, Workplace Violence, Basic Excavation and Trenching Safety, Smoking Cessation, and OSHA Recordkeeping.

On April 30th and May 1st, the Conference will consist of 72 concurrent safety and health sessions, each either 60 or 90 minutes in length. Topics for these general sessions include Occupational Health, Industrial Safety, Ergonomics, Construction Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Lab Safety, Worker's Compensation, and Transportation Safety.

Recipients of the Governor's Workplace Safety Awards will be announced during the opening session on Thursday, May 1st. These awards recognize the most innovative safety and health initiatives among Indiana's workplaces. The awards focus on what works best at eliminating job-related accidents and illness, and maintaining a safe and healthful workplace.

Numerous organizations have applied for the Governor's Workplace Safety Awards this year. The award categories include: Innovations, Partnerships, Education, Outreach, and Technology Transfer. The top organizations in each of these categories will be recognized.

In addition to the safety and health seminars, the 2003 Conference will include an exhibition hall for exhibits and display of the latest safety and health equipment, products and services. The Exhibit Hall will be open on April 30th and May 1st.

The 2002 Conference attracted safety and health professionals from Indiana and surrounding states. Attendees included safety directors, risk managers, occupational health nurses, security professionals, safety committee members, industrial hygienists, human resource managers, line workers, and owners, showing that everyone involved in a company's safety can benefit from the conference sessions.

Again this year, Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered at all sessions during the Conference. Also, in response to attendee request, we have included more intermediate and advanced topics in this year's schedule of sessions.

Make sure to register before April 11, 2003, to take advantage of the discounted registration fees. Companies who register five or more attendees to the Conference at one time will receive a 10% discount.
