Labor Commissioner Speaks at Safety Management Group's Corporate Office

Indianapolis -- Indiana Department of Labor's
Commissioner of Labor Lori A. Torres provided remarks to
attendees of a conference at Safety Management Group's
corporate office in Indianapolis on Thursday, February 15,
2007.
Torres provided opening comments to an audience
of prominent industry leaders who were attending a
presentation by Dave O'Donnell (Click

Torres briefly
discussed what she's learned about workplace safety during her
four-month tenure as the commissioner of labor. She also
commended attendees for their efforts in sharing best
practices information to one another.
Torres praised
safety professionals for their work in helping companies
reduce injuries in the workplace. Statistics were cited that
showed a consistent decrease in injury rates in the State of
Indiana since 2001.
According to the Indiana
Department of Labor Web Site, Ms. Torres has been in the
private practice of law for 20 years having graduated with
honors from law school in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended
Indiana University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in
1982.
Her private practice has been diverse,
representing a wide variety of clients, including local and
out of state mobile home communities, shopping center owners,
contractors in various building trades, churches, as well as
those accused of committing crimes, and creditors and debtors
seeking relief in bankruptcy court.
