One Million Space Heaters Recalled

10/12/2004
More than 1 million Vornado portable electric room heaters are being recalled because they may have a faulty electrical connection. That could cause the device to overheat and stop working, posing a fire hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says Vornado has received 24 reports of heater fires, but none has resulted in injuries.

The affected heaters were sold nationwide and on the company's Web site from July 1991 through January 2004 for $50 to $120. Models 180VH, VH, Intellitemp, EVH, and DVH are included in the recall. Model information appears on a label beneath the unit. Each heater measures about 12 inches tall and 9 1/2 inches wide, and weighs approximately 6 pounds. The Vornado name and symbol appear on the front.
