Des Plaines, Illinois -- The American Society of Safety Engineers (website) issued information to its membership regarding recent updates to ANSI/ASSE Standards. Here's brief recap of the standards with links to additional information:
ANSI/ASSE A10.7-1998 Updates
For the past seven years, the ANSI/ASSE A10.7-1998 standard, 'Commercial Explosives and Blasting Agents'Safety Requirements for Transportation, Storage, Handling and Use,' has provided construction owners, managers, employees and others in the construction industry with guidelines for the safe use, storage, handling and transportation of commercial explosives and blasting agents. ANSI/ASSE A10.8-2001 Updates
Since its revision nearly five years ago, the ANSI/ASSE A10.8-2001 standard, 'Safety Requirements for Scaffolding'American National Standard for Construction and Demolition Operations,' has served as an invaluable resource for members of the Construction and Mining Practice Specialties and for federal, state and government regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which continues to reference the standard in its documents. Other stakeholders have successfully implemented the A10.8 standard in their scaffolding operations. Click here for more....
ANSI/ASSE A10.33-1998 Updates
Reaffirmed in 2004, the A10.33-1998 standard 'Safety and Health Program Requirements for Multi-Employer Projects' continues to provide project constructors with guidelines for the basic duties that contribute to a safe and healthy construction worksite. ANSI/ASSE Z490.1-2001 Updates
In an effort to improve the development, delivery, evaluation and management of safety, health and environmental (SH&E) training, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the ANSI Z490.1-2001 standard, 'Accepted Practices in Safety, Health and Environmental (SH&E) Training,' on July 2, 2001. Those employers and training providers who have chosen to incorporate this standard into their SH&E training within the last four-and-a-half years have lowered employee injury, illness and fatality rates significantly and continue to use the Z490.1-2001 standard to enhance their SH&E training programs. ANSI Z87.1 Updates
On June 20, 2003, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the revised Z87.1 standard, 'Practice for Occupational and Educational Personal Eye and Face Protection Devices,' which marked the first time the standard had been revised since 1989. New materials and improved designs for eye and face protection have afforded users better coverage, comfort and a broader selection of styles. In the two years since ANSI's approval of the Z87.1 standard, those who have complied with its criteria have witnessed a considerable reduction in eye and face injuries. Click here for more....
